Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. Xavier wanted to date her for real, not as some contractual arrangement.

How insane was it that Emma’s husband wanted to date her?

She had to admit, she hadn’t seen this coming. The man had bowled her over with his request. But deep in her heart of hearts, she’d secretly wished for this, for him to desire more than a business deal. Hearing him voice those desires had been akin to winning the lottery. After multiple, toe-curling orgasms, along with her deep-seated wish being granted, she couldn’t refuse him.

God, the way he had looked at her when he asked, those ice blue eyes earnest, filled with the naked truth. He cared about her, had feelings that were deeper than simple lust.

She did, too, and they terrified her. Emma was so used to being on her own and not having anyone to depend on. His words had unearthed long-forgotten dreams. Now, for the first time in her life, she had someone there with shoulders strong enough to bear the weight of her worries, whom she could lean on when her strength waned.

None of that allayed her fears.

She and Xavier entering into a full-blown dating relationship had the potential to blow up in their faces rather epically. However, it was a risk she was willing to take.

Emma cared about the big Scot, far more than she was comfortable with, honestly. She couldn’t eradicate years of programming in the span of an erotic shower, or a week spent in his bed. But she would try, because she couldn’t deny the potent connection and potential they had. No one was more surprised than she by how well they fit together. If someone had told her a month ago that she would not only be married to Xavier Campbell, but in a relationship with him, she would have called them a liar. Or asked what drugs they were on.

While they dressed for the day, she unpacked the rest of her belongings. This way, she wouldn’t be living out of a suitcase for a time.

“Grab a jacket and your bag. After breakfast, we’re heading out.”

“Where are we going?” She couldn’t stop her gaze from its perusal of his body in jeans and a long-sleeved Henley the color of ash. He’d left his hair loose over his shoulders and her fingers itched to run through the thick waves.

“Down to Lochaline village. It’s about an hour’s drive but well worth it. There are castle ruins by the town. I thought you might like to see more than this house while we’re here. As long as you stop looking at me like that, otherwise we’ll never leave this room.”

A blush crept up her neck and into her cheeks. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she deflected, embarrassed to be caught staring with what had most assuredly been lust. “Are there any standing stones that are close?”

“Likely story. I will let it go… for now. But that’s only because I made you a promise to show you Scotland while we’re here.
